What o you need to carry with you on a motorcycle trip through the U.S bound to Central America?

What would you take with you on the motorcycle? I don’t plan to stay in hotels so I assume food, water, a tent, and a sleeping bag are required. Let’s assume the time is early Spring. I’m also wondering what motorcycle would best suit such a trip on a tight budget. Thanks.
