How to title a motorcycle assembled from parts? How to transfer the salvage title to me from insurance co?
I built a bike assembled from parts. After checking with the DMV, the frame and engine have a State Farm salvage title. The DMV said I need to get State Farm to transfer the title to me and apply for an Assembled from Parts Title. State farm, however, said they could not transfer the title. Does anyone know how to get a Motorcycle titled when the component parts have a salvage title issued to an insurance company??

If State Farm sent it to the salvage yard it most likely trashed the pink slip since the bike is no longer their concern.
Fill out the form Assembled from salvaged parts, if necessary attach any receipts from the salvage yard so they can see State Farm no longer owns it.
If I remember right when I gave a car to a salvage yard they took the title too.. check with the salvage yard they might have it. Tapestry6
How did you obtain the frame and the engine and did State Farm give you a reason as to why they could not transfer the title.
There could be all kinds of trouble for you if State Farms still has an interest in the salvage. remowlms
It all boils down to how you got all the parts. If state farm paid off on the bike as totalled, and then the guy instead of junking it sold off parts, he owes state farm money. If he blindly sold it all to you, there is nothing you can do until the person that owned it previously straightens it out with State Farm.
I had a similar situation in 1999. Guy dumped his bike pretty bad and got scared off it. I disassembled everything, wanted to register it as a assembled from parts bike and they would not let me. So, I went to the sec of state in my state, and got a business license as a motorcycle manufacturer. I then filed off the vin number from the frame, and stamped my own.
Yea, it took a little longer to do it this way, and cost a couple bucks more but it was at the time the only way through the paperwork snafu that I was faced with.
I’m not sure due to epa garbage if you can still do it that way or not, but I think you are allowed to build one custom bike in your lifetime.
Check it out before you file off any numbers, but if it looks like you can do it, go for it. BikerJoe1
