What is the best yarn to use for a scarf for a motorcycle rider?

My brother has asked for a scarf to wear when he rides his motorcycle, so I am planning on crocheting one. He has specified that it be durable to withstand the wind: what would be the best type of yarn to use? Can anyone suggest any particular pattern that would hold up well when he wears it on his motorcycle?
